i know what a ram card is, and what it does, and where it goes. but are they all the same size for the most part. like will a hewlitt packard fit a gateway, and a dell and so forth¿

There are different types of RAM that fit in different size sockets. It has nothing to do with brand, it has to do with type, such as DDR2, DDR, or SDRAM. If you want more information, e-mail me.

The most popular types today are the 184pin DDR Ram which ranges from PC1600 to PC4800 than you have the newer 240pin DDR2 Ram whch runs from PC3200 to PC8800. These are not interchangeable. Prior to this you had 92pin PC66 - 150 Ram and prior to that you had 72Pin EDO Ram. Pricewatch has and sells all these types of RAM

some computers like dell they take different ram then say a hp hp's they take 164 pin and dell they take a bigger one so all ram cards won't work in every computer my friend found that out the hard way went and bought ram for his computer installed it and all he got was a computer that would not start i always do a on line search to see what ram will work with what computer it saves time and money knowing before you go and buy ram for it

No, They vary between models of CPU's and computer models.

I mean it might if the RAM card had the same model # that the computers could take.

no they have different models and is depending on the processors speed that u buy them. if they dont have the same speed then they are not going to be on the same computer. good luck!
