NAM-NON ALIGNED MOVEMENT WAS STARTED BY INDIA UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF NEHRUJI WHEN THE WORLD WAS DIVIDED INTO TWO BY THE 2 SUPERPOWERS AT THAT TIME-US & USSR.India being the peace loving nation advocated a 3rd front which was against war. india brought together the like minded countries under 1 roof which was NAM which aimed at development and peace for 3rd world countries.NAM could claim trhe credit of bringing back the peace and stopping the polarisation between the 2 superpowers which came as a much needed relief to the other countries which didnt like these 2 superpowers.

There are books, and things here on the Internet. I was surprised to find out that the war in Viet Nam is not in history classes any more. If you were there, it's a big part of American history.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is made up of 116 developing countries and aims to represent the political, economic and cultural interests of the developing world.

The NAM traces its origins to a meeting in 1955 of 29 Asian and African countries at which heads of state discussed common concerns, including colonialism and the influence of the West.
aggression, occupation, domination, interference or hegemony as well as against great power and bloc politics". They represent nearly two-thirds of the United Nations's members and comprise 55% of the world population.

A meeting in 1961 set up the criteria for NAM membership. It ruled that member countries could not be involved in alliances or defence pacts with the main world powers. In this way the NAM sought to prevent its members from becoming pawns in Cold War power games and distanced itself from the Western and Soviet power blocs.
