Why do I spend inordinate amounts of time attempting to do more, get more, feel more, be more? I am constantly striving for the wind?

This is because you are meant for so much more, so it is only natural that you would feel this way. To desire things can be a good thing, especially when it points to that we need to be satisified. Even the people you love the most can disappoint, and can never fill the void that we all have. Physical pleasure is only temporary and can never completely satisfiy. In fact if you look in any earthy thing, you will find it to be lacking. We've lost ourselves.
I suggest you that you should strive for the perfect; the absolute, and the thing that can never disappoint. The only thing possible that can fit that description has to be perfect. Someone suggested you to listen to Buddha. I suggest you to listen to God. Desiring can be good because it shows us that we need God.
"As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God..." Psalm 42:1-2

Getting what you want does not guarantee happiness. Rather that constantly struggling to get what you want, try to modify your wanting. Wanting deprives us of contentment and happiness.

Make a difference between what you need and what you want then strive for your needs and modify your wants. Needs can be fulfilled but wants are endless, bottomless pit. Desires beyond what is fundamental and essential should be gradually lessened.

After all, What is the purpose of life? To be content and to be happy.

well this is what buddhists believe, i myself am not one, but i still believe that the following is true

Desire and ignorance lie at the root of suffering. By desire, Buddhists refer to craving pleasure, material goods, and immortality, all of which are wants that can never be satisfied. As a result, desiring them can only bring suffering.
