I have no trouble filling holes on the flat wall using a paint scraper to even it out, but I have trouble getting it nice and smooth on the corners. Im using stuff called Joint Filling Compound, I thought I could smooth it by running my finger down but it is not the right consistency for that. Is there a special tool I need?

There is a tool. It's like a wide paint scraper shaped in a 90 degree angle.

If you don't want to buy the specail tool for just a small project...
You can also get the inside corner nice and straight and smooth by sanding it with sandpaper wraped around a piece of 2x4. Just make sure it is dry first.

I was watching HGTV's "Room By Room" and the host said his trick was to use grout in a tube, run it down the corner, then smooth it out with your finger. It blends very well and is paintable.

You can buy a corner-shaped trowel at paint supply stores or certain builders' supply stores.
