How do I hook up an external hard drive to a DVR?

Pace TDC775 Tahoe Digital Cable HD DVR Set-top Box with "i type" SATA and hard drive enclosure with "L type" SATA.

I do have an "i type" sata to "L type" sata cable, but hooking them up does nothing. I have formatted the drive so it can be used as a USB drive on my home computer.

Try running the DVR through Linux.
