Which of the two are better? My answer is mcafee (I believe answerer SHOULD answer first to the question to the point before giving any opinion).
But neither of the two I am using. I am using ANTIVIR. Why? Because it is easy to use and almost no puzzling configurations to be made. Just install and you are guarded against viruses everyday. The only requirement? Just check on your system tray if the umbrella is open. Update (of vdf) is automatic and you don't have to do anything.
I may suggest if you still cannot decide which antivirus to use, then try these three (or even four: ANTIVIR, AVG, mcAfee, Norton). If you got confused in configurations at one, seems slow, or not catching virus, then switch to another.

I personally think neither, i use Kaspersky Anti Virus and i believe its the best thing going, it also catches trojans, rootkits etc etc, i work in IT security and use kaspersky on my test bed for 99% of our projects, the other 1% is when we dont use any anti virus. I agree with the other peoples opinion when they say the norton and mcafee slow all your systems down, they also need to be (in my eyes) heavily configured which is not good for the home user!! Either way good luck with your choice!!

The McAfee Site Advisor is not an AV or AS program. It is a program that warns you about sites that can infect you or spam you. They test site and rate them. When you do a Google or Yahoo Search it color codes the site they have tested. The Site Advisor site explains how it works.

I will not recommend a program for you to use. I might work fine for me, but, not you.
I recommend you read this site and see if it help you make up your mind.

Neither cause both of them suck because they run in the background and make your computer slower by using up resources. What do most viruses/spyware apps do --- slow down your computer. What does Mcafee/Norton do --- slow down your computer. Therefore I consider both of them to be viruses.
Unless you're some paranoid freak or a grade A customer to popup porn sites, you don't need them running. I love how magazines and the media hype up the threat to make it sound 5x worse than it really is. Just run a scan once every week or two and you'll be fine.
