The best one I've ever read was ' Salem's Lot. It just makes you see how easily your whole town could be vampires. No kidding. There's also a series of books that he wrote that are all related. The second one picks up where the 1st leaves off and so on. The first is called The Stand.

Misery was real good. The Stand is famous, but very long; worth plowing through though.
The scariest of all is that damn "It" becuz of the horrifying clown; I s
still can't step across a storm drain opening at street corners!

It, Firestarter, The Stand, 'Salems Lot, those are great novels, but some of his best work are his short stories.
Read all the short story collections, Night Shift, Different Seasons, Skeleton Crew, & Everthings Eventual.
Good luck in your journey constant reader...

Misery is excellent. Insomnia is awesome as is the Stand. The best is the Dark Tower Series.

The Eyes of the Dragon.
It's a very nice story about a kingdom, its king and his son.
Randall Flagg, Evil incarnated and the antagonist of The Stand, appears as the king's wizard!

I think Pet Cemetary and IT were probably the scariest. Hearts of Atlantis is the strangest. Desperation is also pretty good. But you can never go wrong with Carrie or Christine.

The Stand is far and away his best book. It terrified me, which also ranks it very high on my list. SK also wrote a book with Peter Straub that was fantastic, The Talisman. Black House, which is the sequel, isn't on the same par, imo

Everything's Eventual - excellent short story collection.
Also his book On Writing is wonderful. You get the background on some of the book he's written and how they came about. It is a really fascinating read.
