The NY Yankees scheduled for prime-time again (game #2, Wednesday), again Friday (game # 3)? What if this game gets postponed like Wednesday's? Someone is getting cheated out of possible night games with them being postponed. Not that the MLB can control the rain but it can equally divide the night games between EACH of the 8 playoff teams. If $$$ is what they are looking and hoping for in showing the NY Yankees primetime, let all of their games be postponed so they can make them up during the day.
Things like this is probably one reason why so much dislike for some popular teams exist among fans who otherwise would be nuetral.

"Sunny"...personally...YOU DO NOT KNOW ME! So learn how to answer by staying on topic. I know it's hard sometimes because I have the same trouble.
I do have to say, however, your answer was pretty good after you got over your rude salutation.

"Steveo"...the reason this make-up game isn't prime-time is because this was to be a day off for the Yankees and another playoff game was already scheduled at night.

My apology to "Sunny". At first I thought there wasn't anything in my question that warranted a 'rude' remark. But I got to thinking, I was being a little sarcastic about the Yankees' prime time games being rained out so there would be no prime time game at all.

I have to agree with the asker.

I realize money is involved in these decisions, but if you watch the coverage - ranging from BBTN to the pregame shows to post-game wrapups to the coverage itself - you'll notice ALL they talk about is the Yankees and Derek Jeter. That is simply all anyone talks about. That has nothing to do with money or market share... it's simply analysts refusing to talk about a full spectrum of playoff baseball and instead concentrating on the Yankees and east coast baseball.

I think it's deplorable that the Yankees are the only prime time matchup on the days they play in the Division Series. 3 prime time matchups in 3 days is inexcusable, especially considering both teams playing are Central/Eastern times. Meanwhile the A's, Padres, and Dodgers are all playing at 10 am and 1pm while everyone is at work on the West Coast. The A's-Twins series has been shoved to the 10am time slot two days in a row, while the Padres-Cardinals can't even play on consecutive days until they get to St Louis...

The Playoffs are about baseball, about the fans, about people being able to see their teams play in the postseason. If the A's had gone down 0-2 instead of going up 2-0 in the series certain A's fans would have potentially only had a single chance to see their team in the 06 Playoffs. I think in the cases of these nationally televised matchups the home markets on the West Coast MUST be taken into account by FOX and ESPN.

Everyone knows there's an East Coast bias, anyway. It's just glaringly apparent during this postseason because of the way West Coast teams have been shoved under the proverbial doormat...

If you go anywhere in this country someone well more like alot of people own yankee stuff, i'm not a yankee fan yet i know people love them and there is a lot of money to be made. MLB did the smart thing this year and did not schedule any 2 games at the same time so people can watch every game (not sure now with the rain delay but you see the point)....and if you look at another facotr which is time zones, most games are being played at 1 pm west coast time or 8 pm here to accomidate usual baseball times. and by the way yankees are 1pm thursday so not all games are prime time for the yankees

Yes there's a bias. The Yankee games are being put on prime time... because the Yankees have the most national interest.

How else can you explain the A's and Twins starting at 1 PM Eastern? That's like... a 10 AM Start time on the west coast.... when have they ever started a game at 10 AM in the playoffs? Anywhere?

The Yanks get the prime time games because they expect the Yanks to draw the best ratings. Its a money decision being made by ESPN to protect their investment (See: Theft of free playoff baseball).

Yea, unfortunately, I think there IS bias in MLB. I mean, the executives aren't stupid. I'm sure they have many analysts telling them how to schedule games. They want to maximize their profit, like any other organization and/or corporation. For some reason, people are obsessed with the Yankees. Personally, I think they are over rated, but they have a huge fan base. So (as someone else said), a lot of people will want to advertise when the Yankees are on. And does someone want to put an ad on TV at like 11am or 1pm when people are at work and not as many people are watching? Of course not! It's all business politics.

But honestly, either way...if you like a team enough, you will use TIVO, record the game, skip work, whatever...to watch it. So the time (although nights would be better, I think) is irrelevant because most people will watch the game somehow, regardless of the time it is on TV...

But I definitely see, and agree, with a lot of your points...

Sure thats all true --but the Yankees did draw in over 4 million fans this year! Only makes sense that the most popular team get the prime time game! Yes I love the Tigers-but knew they would only be on in the evenings if they played the Yankees!

Well, personally I think you're full of crap but look, there is a larger market in NY than the rest of the country for any game. But sometimes these games are scheduled through the TV stations on availability. Don't you think the TV moguls could've had a hand in it too? They know people will watch the Yankees on a night game. That's the best time they can have their sponsors' ads run. It's all about money!

Largest market share is New York. The Yankees are the team to beat. The Tigers lost out on their division and were forced to play the Yankees. Oakland and Minnisota have much smaller markets.

The Reason The Yankee games are played at night is because they are playing The Tigers.

Yes, there is a bias towards the Yankees, but we all want to follow their games - right? LOL. I would just as soon watch anything other that the Yankees - they make me sick!

yes i think every fan can say that there is. most teams that aren't on the east coast will always be underdogs in the baseball media. is it really fair to put the padres/cards playoff game @ 1 o'clock or the a's/twins game @ 11? it's very inconsiderate i would say. but that's the way it's always been.
