This just happened to me last month! The end of the sofa just jumped up and laid the smackdown on my toe. This is what my doctor told me (without doing any x-rays)-

It may not be broken, it may just be sprained. Either way the treatment is the same. Just get some cloth tape or medical tape and tape it to the next biggest toe (just like what mel said). Use a little bit of cotton in between them so they don't rub.

Good luck! I know it hurts, but it gets better faster than you think. I used some IcyHot (or something similar) to numb the pain a little. I actually used it on my whole foot, and within 2 weeks I was pretty much back to normal.

Broken Pinky Toe

First, it does sound like it's broken. Don't worry. I've broken my toe before, and it's not a serious problem. Just follow this advice:

1)try to stay off of it as much as possible. I know you said you have to go to the gym, but you shouldn't do any exercise that involves using your foot or standing on that particular foot for any length of time.
2)tape your toe to the toe next to it. This will immobilize it so you probably won't need a special shoe. However, it's better if you have a shoe made for a broken toe, to keep your foot from moving the toe too much.(When I broke my toe, I had to have the shoe and crutches. If you don't have crutches, buy some. This will help, especially if you need help standing while at work.)
3) if you have any swelling, you can use an ice pack wrapped in a towel. Don't forget to wrap it up, though. A broken toe takes approximately 6 weeks to 2 months to heal completely. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

There is nothing the can do for a broken pinky toe. Just take Tylenol and you can tape it to the toe next to it to keep is stabilized but it will heal all on its on. I am a server by trade and I have broken both of mine. Hurts for awhile but you will live and you can't tell it was broken once it heals.

In cases like this it would be best to pay your doctor a visit, self diagnosis is something I encourage people to avoid. As a first line of defense, you can take a pain killer you already got or ask someone to run by your local pharmacy and get it.

Next, you should apply ice to cool your finger down and elevate it. Elevation in combination with ice will reduce the swelling and pain. When the pain becomes more bearable, you should immobilize it - the best way to do it is to tape your little toe to its neighbor.

And finally, you should consider getting/wearing appropriate shoes. If it is indeed broken, it may take up to 8 weeks for it to fully heal so buying a new pair of shoes would be a good idea.

All the best!

I 've had a broken pinky toe before. I didn't go to the doctor because I was told they couldn't do anything for it anyway. I took ibuprofen or tylenol for the pain and that was all I did.

I broke my pinky toe and they sent me to the emergency room because they thought it was going to have to be yanked back into place. THAT didn't make me happy. However, the emergency room doctor disagreed and he taped my pinky toe to the next toe and sure enough in about 8 weeks it was fine. I took Ibuprophen for the aching that seemed to go on and on. Best of luck to you! If you ever break your pinky finger, same procedure. I did that one too!

I had a .22 bullet go through my pinkie toe...seriously!! It was shattered. All that could be done was to tape it up to the toe next to it, and I also got a special walking shoe from a medical supply store to keep me from bending it. It healed completely in about 6 wks.

Advil and lots of it. I broke my pinky toe several times. The last time the toe nail fell off and it took two years to grow back. The toe next to it was also broke. I am really stupid but I have a high tolerance to pain. I never missed a beat in my work out. Also the two toes bones healed together, which actually worked out because I have better balance. If Lisa Renna can say on national TV she has foot fungus I can come clean and admit to it too. It isn't the itchy burning kind. Just major callouses and cracked skin. Working out as much as I do It is virtually impossible for me to get rid of it. Besides those callouses are my shock absorbers.
