It's a Manual (Shift stick as Americans call it). As I hit 4th gear, you can start to hear a sound like a low "woop woop" kind of noise, something like when a washing machine starts to slow down. It's really hard to explain what it sounds like. I don't know where it's coming from too but my dad says it might be coming from the front. I have already taken the car for a safety check today and waiting for a phone call. I'm asking this to see if anyone has the same problem as I have before and to make sure the mechanics are telling me the truth.

Sounds like a tire problem. Probably cupped tire wear on the rear. This is problem on the small vehicles, due to lack of weight on the rear of the car. Run your hand over the rear tire tread and see if you feel any uneven spots. The uneven tire tread would cause the noise you are describing. You should consider rotating your tires more often, to help prevent the cupping.
