This question is directed to the people on here who, whenever anyone asks who's the greatest player ever, answer Michael Jordan and don't give any "legitimate reasons".
I proposed this question on here over 3 months ago, and no one was able to back it up. So lets hear it people...Why is Michael Jordan the greatest player ever??

makaveli1...when did you EVER see Jordan pass? Also, Longley was never an all-star. And what "numbers" are you referring to? Bill Russell has 11 rings.

starglows...Many, many players played when sick or injured. Jordan playing with the flu is nothing.

Yes Dondon...I've watched him since he played in college. I've also watched Magic, Bird, Wilt, Kareem, Russell, Robertson, and West and in my opinion they were all better than Jordan.

I liked that you asked this.
oldest player to score 40 and 50 in a game and they were back to back. first player to average 200+ steals and 100+ blocks in a season. 1st guard to win Defensive POY and MVP in the same year also by acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. Although, a summary of his basketball career and influence on the game inevitably fails to do it justice, as a phenomenal athlete with a unique combination of fundamental soundness, grace, speed, power, artistry, improvisational ability and an unquenchable competitive desire, Jordan single-handedly redefined the NBA superstar. Even other great superstars recognized the unparalleled position of Jordan. Magic Johnson said, "There's Michael Jordan and then there is the rest of us."
A brief listing of his top accomplishments would include the following: Rookie of the Year; Five-time NBA MVP; Six-time NBA champion; Six-time NBA Finals MVP; Ten-time All-NBA First Team; Nine time NBA All-Defensive First Team; Defensive Player of the Year; 14-time NBA All-Star; Three-time NBA All-Star MVP; 50th Anniversary All-Time Team; Ten scoring titles -- an NBA record and seven consecutive matching Wilt Chamberlain; Retired with the NBA's highest scoring average of 30.1ppg. Also in the playoffs with 33.4 average. and there is lenty more firsts.
And the world loves him so much we keep trying to find a replacement for him. No one says who's the next Magic, bird, or Robertson. No they say who is the next Jordan. And if its anything else just ask and I'll tell

Michael Jordan is the great because of his own achievements 6 championships, 5 MVPs, 14x all huge call, 9x protective participant of the year.. actually MJ had the whole kit. He ought to score, look after, and maximum seriously, win video games. plus after chicken and Magic, human beings looked for someone to take the torch and carry it, and Michael ran away with it mutually with his common allure and marketability. MJ is not merely an NBA huge call yet a pop icon besides. because of this he's seen the great because the picture of Babe Ruth, his call will probable pass down because the most proper even with time.

M.J. could do it all. Shoot, pass, dribble, play defense, everything. But the thing that is most important he made his team around him great. Luc Longley was a all-star center with M.J. nothing without him. Same with players such as: B.J. Armstrong, Bill Wennington, Jason Caffey. Yes alot of people can score, but M.J. did everything. He won scoring title and the defensive player of the year in the same year. And he won!!!!!!! He has 6 rings to say he is great and the numbers say he is the best of all time.

you can write a whole paper on this topic but i'll keep it nice and short.
strip away all the marketing and endorsements from this man and you will still end up with a charismatic, extremely competitive man with the heart of a true champion. aside from winning championships and winning scoring titles he willed himself through extremely pressured situations. watching his games made you feel like he almost had a sense of stage presence when he was climing back from a huge point margin while taking the shots in the clutch. he embraced the final seconds by taking last shot after last shot. he made a lasting impression on everyone that watched him. his whole life was based on failing and redeeming himself i.e. not making the varsity cut, people said he didn't have a jump shot, people said he couldn't play defense and from what i recall he was defensive player of the year one year.
he was a hard worker that made everyone else better around him and he changed the way the game was played with his style of play.
if that doesn't make him the greatest player to ever play then i don't know what to say. for people that don't believe that he is, what would you like us to say?

well, i can't really force you to believe that michael jordan is the greatest, but just take a good look at some of his accomplishments ... 1-time nba defensive player of the year ... 2-time olympic basketball gold medalist ... 3-time nba all-star mvp ... 5-time nba regular season mvp ... 6-time nba finals mvp ... 6-time nba world champion ... i guess there's no other player who's more decorated than MJ ... without a doubt, he's the greatest!

He's not, just one of the best-looking and charming. To me, the best is Magic Johnson, not only did he play well, but later, when his life could have been over due to AIDS, he chose to turn it around into something positive and used (and still uses) his money earned in the sport, and his fame, to help those less fortunate than he, and to spread awareness and education about AIDS.
God bless him!
