People usually want to keep their nationality and to have unification in Europe they would have to give that up to a certain extent. They would have to agree on one leader and what country would that leader come from? Where he did not come from the people would not be very happy. Their laws will have to conform into a law for all of Europe not just Germany, France, et cetera for it to work well I would think. It would make for a stronger nation just look at the USA, if it were a bunch of little countries like Europe it would not be the powerful nation that it is today.

Europe is a continent with too much history and not enough geography. Basically, the countries in the EU have been independent for so long that they are unwilling to give up that independence in favour of a "super state". Also, the fact that Europe has over 40 languages and 3,000 kinds of cheese doesn't help matters any.
