"I have brown patch (a lawn guy diagnosed it) on my very nice st
augustine lawn in Austin, TX and it is spreading really fast!
I am planning to use Turfcide 10 from Home depot on it. I hope that
works.
Are there any special instructions for the spray or the granules. Like
do I water in? When? Do I spray all over or only the part with brown
spot?
How much time does it take for the lawn to show effects?
If my lawn has been fertilized in August, should I still go ahead and
fertilize it for the winter using Winterizer.
So many questions. Would appreciate answers to all of them cause I know
nothing about lawns!! (obviously:)
Anything else that helps me care for my lawn is welcome too. Thanks in
advance for the advice."

Turfcide contains the active ingredient called "Terraclor". Terraclor is very effective against Rhizoctonia Solani (Brown Patch) but it IS NOT very mobile in the soil.

IF you've purchased the spray, apply the amount with sufficient water to incorporate it into your lawn. IF you're using the granules, apply the required amount and water it in with irrigation.

My advice is to broadcast the recommended amount of Turfcide and then water it into your lawn. BUT before you do this, you should do the following;

1) IF you have over 2 inches of thatch, you should de-thatch immediately

2) Mow your lawn when it is dry (also lower the mowing height).
DO NOT mow when turf is wet or else the disease will be spread to other parts of your lawn by the mower.

3) Apply your fertilizer (Winterizer)

4) Apply your Turfcide at recommended rates

5) Water-incorporate the fertilizer and Turfcide into your lawn.
You should set your timer to irrigate earlier in the mornings-- this will reduce the spread of the disease.

Expect about a week or so before expecting to see any results from the Turfcide application.

To prevent future problems with Brown Patch or other soil-born diseases on your lawn, I strongly recommend that you consider using a product called; "RootShield".

"RootShield" contains a naturally-occuring beneficial fungi that protects turf and ornamental plants from various soil-born diseases (including Rhizoctonia). It does not harm plants and lives in the soil for a very long time. Simply make an application next Spring and you should be okay for the rest of the year. NOTE: DO NOT apply Turfcide after you make an application of RootShield since it will kill off the beneficial fungus.

I'm sure you can find it anywhere online but I happened to find it listed at: Gardener's Supply Company (phone 1-888-833-1412)

Hope this information was useful for you and answered some/all of your questions. GOOD LUCK!

Ok, chill. the package will give you directions. We spread it with a lawn spreader on moms lawn. It worked. It's only a fungus. Do not fertilize before the winter. wait until spring. The grass should be recently cut if it needed before applying fungicide. If it's not too long go ahead and treat. If it's going to rain within a day or two don't waste water by watering it in. You don't have to apply too heavy. a little goes a long way. In sprig.a a tonic of Beer and octagon soap can be used mixed with water and sprayed on the lawn. This has to be done with a bottle on the end of a hose. The octagon soap is the old fashioned brown soap, hard to find. This kills a lot of bugs and the yeast in the beer is good for the grass. Overseed using a drought resistant grass seed with your spreader. This keeps new grass growing. Then after the lawn has been cut a couple of times add weed and feed and lime that is meant for lawns. Ask the people at Lowe's. You can put epsom salts on the lawn too. Look for natural lawn treatments on the web and find organic, simlpe things that you can do.
