There can easily be ice storms all the way down into Mississippi (south of Arkansas) which are worse for driving, walking, and surviving than just snow on the ground.

We have been in Tunica MS for several years at Christmas week and found "unexpected ice" that made it a nightmare with drivers skidding across the roads and no town having a snowplow.

I live in north west arkansas for about 25 years and it hardly ever snows till late january. Maybe a very very little snow but not enough to make it through the day till it is melted and gone. We at times get freezing rain but I can't remember it happening in December.
