I haven't had this problem at the park/sandbox since the kids are wearing pants, But happens all the time at the beach. We shower off real good now after an episode of sand in between my son's 'cheeks'. He was quite chaffed really by the time we got home. One time, at the tide pools, there was no shower. I had my son squat behind the car door and gave him a quick squirt with a water bottle (this could easily be done on the park bathroom's toilet, I imagine, and it would be more discreet too, LOL), but whatever keeps you both comfortable.

My son suffers from severe rash down there whenever we go to the beach. Between the sand, salt water and the long bathing suit rubbing against his inner thighs and privates, it gets to the point where he can't walk. The outdoor shower don't help at all. I've came to the conclusion of wrapping a big towel around him, then he slides his bathing suit off and he then sits to dry off (with the towel still around him, of course!). After he's dried, he takes baby powder and puts it all over. This takes off all the excess sand like magic. Then he just puts on a clean pair of shorts for the drive home. We do it all the time..

I've read a few of the answers and am amazed. Have the people giving anwers like... wipe them off with wipes really taken their children to a sandy beach? During the summer we camp on a lake. It has a sandy beach and my two year old goes swimming with us often. She loves to sit in the sand and play with toys. I've tried many things trying to get the sand out of her swimmingsuit without causing offense or embarrassment of others. There are many times that we will be there all day and the only restroom next to the lake is a Johnnie on the Spot. So when it comes time for her nap time it is difficult to get the sand off of her. When it is time for her nap I stand in the water next to the dock and while under the water I take her swimming suit off. I swish her around a little and then I wrap the towel that I have sitting on the dock around her and take her back to the truck to get into dry clothing. She usually has no sand if very little on her. If she is just getting out to eat or rest I hold her body under the water and pull down on her swimming suit until I feel that the sand has mostly gone. If I don't do that she is very crabby and miserable. My 6 and 7 year old girls are on their own. They can fend for themselves and no one seems to notice. Even me. :) If I'm at the park and my daughter has a sand issue ... I take her into the restroom to sort it out. We took the girls to a corn maze a few weeks ago and afterwards they played in a "corn crib" It was like a giant sand box but full of corn. I witnessed a father pick corn out of his son's diaper and toss it back into the box. I found that rather disgusting. :) I've rambled long enough. God bless you.

well if youre at the beach, take your kid in the water and splash some water in their swimsuit to get out the sand. if not, you will have to wait till you get inside to wash them off in the shower

Clean your kid off in the bathroom. There is always a bathroom. Go in the largest stall, have them take off the pants.. .shake them out while your kid wipes with baby wipes (that you brought because you were smart enough to think ahead because you are super mom)
The putting the hands in your kids pants thing... thats just nasty..

I just put a towel on the seat and wait until we get home. Otherwise bring clothes and if there is a changing room or bathroom change them before you leave.

I know that parenting is a very "natural" part of life, but seriously, with all the sickos out there just take your child somewhere private to conduct any of such business!
