Shot

Only for you, young girl.

THE TERRIBLE PEOPLE
People who have what they want are very fond of telling people who haven't what they want that they really don't want it,
And I wish I could afford to gather all such people into a gloomy castle on the Danube and hire half a dozen capable Draculas to haunt it.
I don't' mind their having a lot of money, and I don't care how they employ it,
But I do think that they damn well ought to admit they enjoy it.
But no, they insist on being stealthy
About the pleasures of being wealthy,
And the possession of a handsome annuity
Makes them think that to say how hard it is to make both ends meet is their bounden duity.
You cannot conceive of an occasion
Which will find them without some suitable evasion.
Yes indeed, with arguments they are very fecund;
Their first point is that money isn't everything, and that they have no money anyhow is their second.
Some people's money is merited,
And other people's is inherited,
But wherever it comes from,
They talk about it as if it were something you got pink gums from.
Perhaps indeed the possession of wealth is constantly distressing,
But I should be quite willing to assume every curse of wealth if I could at the same time assume every blessing.
The only incurable troubles of the rich are the troubles that money can't cure,
Which is a kind of trouble that is even more troublesome if you are poor.
Certainly there are lots of things in life that money won't buy, but it's very funny --
Have you ever tried to buy them without money?

Jacques de Molay - the last grandmaster of the knights Templar. He and the other knights Templar protected pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem, and tried valiantly to save the crusader cities in the region from being destroyed. If that's not enough, the Templar treasuries actually bailed out countries when their own funds were exhausted. For all their hard work, and de Molay's pious leadership, Louis The 14th of France, and the pope had the Templars arrested and subsequently tortured. They were forced to "confess" to outrageous charges. After breaking down from the torture, de molay told the inquisitors what they wanted to hear. At his "trial" he withdrew his confession and stated that the Templars were not guilty of anything. For this, he was sentenced to death by burning. On the day of his execution, de Molay once again proclaimed his and the Templar's' innocence. Before the flames consumed his starved beaten body, it is said that he cursed the pope and Louis IVX saying that they would join him for their treachery. In an eerie twist, both men died before the end of the year. Interesting huh?

I agree with the one that said Lady jane Grey. She really didn't want to be queen. However, to me the most tragic was the daughter of Sejanus when his family was wiped out by Tiberius. She was only 4-5 at the most. When they led her away to strangle her, she said,"I won't be bad. I promise." Then they strangled and raped the poor little thing.

Luke 15

The Parable of the Lost Son
11. Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons.
.........................................................................................
25. "Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.
26. So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on.
27. 'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'
28. "The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.
29. But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.
30. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!'

There are no heroes of action, only heroes of renunciation and suffering.
-- Albert Schweitzer

This, the tragic hero is "the older son".

I think Madame Marie Curie is a tragic figure. The radioactvity she discovered ended up killing her.

Christopher Columbus is another - he died something like 10-12 years after his voyages as a broken man.

Mr. Schlinder from Schindler's list. Once the war was over, he accomplished nothing. He lost money in every venture he tried and would have died destitute if not for the generosity of the Jews he saved.
