My history teacher, Mr. Perkinson, told our class today that black Americans are a failed race and have failed to take any oppertunity into improving themselves. He also gave a bunch of case studies about how blacks cause lots of crime and told us what he said wasn't racist but is the truth. I am really confused now...is what he said true?

As a race, no. In some communities, a defeatist attitude is prevalent. Whose fault it is, is the point of contention. Some blame those that are responsible for themselves. Some blame the society they were forced to live in. I don't think it matters whose fault it is. Just pick yourself up and make something of yourself. Individuals of all races do it all the time. There are a lot of white people that I wouldn't consider a success either.

You can only declare success or failure at the end of something, so no matter WHAT state they are or are not in now, it's definitely unfair to call them "failed".

I personally feel much more comfortable around black Africans, though, to be honest -- often even MORE comfortable because I tend to like them a lot. But I get the vibe the American ones hate me or my color or something, with only a very few exceptions.

okay!!
First off your teacher is dumb its a good idea to let him know that before he goes off corrupting the young minds of America.
Me being a young African American , I am offended by what your teacher has said. There is no possible why someone can determine if a certain race has failed. Did the people who came up with these lame statistics ask every "black" person in America what they have done with their lives...NO and has anyone every really looked into all the crazy things whites have done I mean lets be real hasn't almost all of the nations tragedies have been committed by crazy white people....massacres to colts and even molestation .If you ask me the color of your skin doesn't determine if your doomed to fail its the content of your character.
And I hope no one was offend by what i said but imonly speaking my mind.

The problem with your teacher's proclamation, is that he is basing his belief about "black" people by comparing them to "white" people.

One has to take into consideration that "White" society can trace its roots back as far 8000 bc. Whites developed the wheel, the written word, the ability to sail across open water, the ability to gather water and domesticate crops and farms as far back as that. America is a society that was built upon 10,000 years of development and knowledge.

Now, compare that to the black man, who in Africa at the turn of the last century, was still living in small communities of hunter and gathering people, devoid of the wheel, written language, domestication of crops. Some of these congo societies did not even have marriage as an institution. The black Africa is a race that never had the sociological developments and 10,000 years of genetic engineering that white people have had.

Imagine picking up a cave man from 10,000 bc and dropping him off in Downtown Chicago. How would he fare in that environment? Would he start a business? Would he be the President of a company? No. Most likely he would struggle to survive at the most basic level.

Now, compare a black man to that cave man and you would have to say that black people in America are remarkably successful. As a matter of fact, they are the wealthiest black African people anywhere in the world.

The black ethnicity is not a "failed race." We should all realize that God created us all equal and sees us all as his children. I know many diligent black people, and people of other races are just as capable of committing crimes. He failed to present you with both sides of a story and offered a biased statement. Regarding the term "bigot," it is a very ignorant person.

He forgot the fact that white people are the cause of most problems and are the ones who brought them over in the first place. They are not a failed race.

Your teacher said nothing like that at all.

It's your own bigoted, racist, mind that thinks that.

EDIT

Make that "stupid, bigoted, racist, mind" if you don't know what a bigot is
