Kolby R has it reversed. An excess of bacteria is Bacterial Vaginosis. A yeast infection is caused by an excess of yeast and not enough bacteria in her vagina. Like I said in my other answer, clean it out and use cinnamon extract. This is what I do and it goes away with in a couple of days. In my previous answer to a different question, when I said symptoms had ceased within a couple of weeks, that was in reference to the girl at work who's entire body was infected. Poor girl had it coming out of her pores. Also, tell her NOT to use anti-bacterial soap down there, that will kill the bacteria that help keeps a healthy balance. If you can do it natural, then why take something prescribed that will compromise other parts of your body.

Vaginal thrush is a common infection caused by a yeast called candida albicans, which lives - in small numbers – in areas of the body like the bowel, mouth and in the vagina. Thrush develops when candida numbers grow excessively. Thrush is also known as candidiasis.

Vaginal itching or burning are common symptoms
Symptoms which you may experience if you develop thrush include:

Vaginal discomfort - itching or burning
A thick white discharge with a 'cottage cheese' appearance
Redness or swelling of the vagina or vulva
Stinging or burning while urinating.
Diagnosis of thrush
For a diagnosis of thrush to be made, your doctor will need to examine your genitals and take swab specimens from the affected area.

How thrush occurs
Thrush is not a sexually transmitted disease. It is caused by an overgrowth of candida, which normally lives in the vagina. The overgrowth may be due to:
Antibiotic use
Oral contraceptive use
Diabetes
Pregnancy
General illness and immune system disorders.

Discharge is when you see a yellow or white substance coming from your vagina when you wipe or in your underwear. If she is sore and burning, she needs to see a doctor because it could be something more serious. Like and STD! Sounds like she needs an antibiotic. Tell her to stop scratching and pulling at her lips. Again for the 10th time GO TO THE DOCTOR.....

Yes, it is. Your friend really needs to go see a doctor! A yeast infection can be very painful! They have a pill now that you can take one time and your symptoms start clearing up relatively quickly. You longer have to use those messy creams. I can't remember the name of the pill right now though. Sometimes you/she can talk to your pharmacist and they will call your doctor and get the prescription filled over the phone. I really suggest she go to the doctor though, it could be a urinary track infection, or something worse especially if she's sexually active. Good luck, and take care. Any of the fore-mentioned really suck. Also tell her to drink cranberry juice, that can help get rid of a yeast infection!

Discharge is the result of antibodies fighting the odor causing bacteria that your friend has allowed to grow unchecked in her vagina. It smells awful and looks like a spoiled bowl of potato soup.

As for her labia, if she tugs at them too long, they will stretch like taffy. She will end up with a medical condition called labiamosis. It's also called "droopy lip" or "limp vag". She should stop immediately and wrap her lips in gauze.

Sometimes the lip tugging is compulsive. She made need your help to stop. If she gets limp vag, the effects will be permanently visible. Her underwear will not fit properly, and camel toe will show through her jeans.

It's pretty normal to have itchy lips when you have a yeast infection. Discharge is the fluid that comes from your vagina. If it isn't its normal consistency - if it's lumpy and white, then that is a pretty good sign that you have a yeast infection. Because that area is inflamed it can burn a little when you clean it too.

No its not, she needs to see a doctor so he can prescribe something. At least get it diagnosed if she is sexually active.
It may not be a yeast infection. The over the counter stuff may not be the solution.
