If he's ever close enough just say "hi" or "good morning" and make sure you smile. Also, look him dead in the eye and don't act bashful... be confident!

Guys actually like it when a girl comes up and says hi. I guarantee he is just as nervous or scared and trying to act tough to his buddies by not saying anything. So, just walk by him, flash a gentle smile, and say "Hi", and keep walking. That way he knows you are interested, but doesn't have to risk anything in front of his friends. Most likely he will give a nod or say hi back. Then later, you can start up more of a conversation....

you walk up to him and say "hi"....the worst he can say is "get out of here freak" or something of that nature...or maybe "ooooo, gross" and run screaming into the streets...if he does, he does...there will be worse things happen in your life than that.
