In a dorm, I would say not a very good chance. Most 'coed' dorms either have boys on one floor and girls on another, or are coed by suite with 4 girls (2/room) sharing a suite (bathroom) and then maybe there would be boys on the same hall. But I don't think girls and guys can share rooms on university campuses. If you got your own apartment you would be much more likely to get to choose a roommate of a different sex.

The college I attend provides single-sex dorms and co-ed dorms. I have never heard of having a "roommate" of the opposite sex but I know it is possible to live next door to someone of the opp. sex. I stay in a co-ed dorm and its pretty cool b/c we don't share anything. Everything we need is in our rooms, including the bathroom. It also made seeing my boyfriend a lot easier b/c he stayed upstairs from me. But it's all about what makes you comfortable. If you feel better staying in a single-sex dorm or co-ed dorm do it, but make sure to visit the dorms first.

In my University, all dorms are co-ed. (I'm in canada, and you may be too, but I think it may make a difference)
One floor is designated to be "all girls" just for those who are uncomfortable or morally not able to live on the same floor as a male. All the others are co-ed.
You would never have a guy and a girl as roomates though. It's not "ethical". Your bathrooms, and showers are all co-ed as well.
So, if you are moving in, good luck with dorm life. Bring ear plugs for noisy roomates! Trust me.. :)

So-called "co-ed" dorms are where the girls live on one floor and the guys live on another of the same building -and there are NO internal passages between floors! In addition, to get into the girls' dorm you have to be invited and the girls can only invite you when the school approves - which is not often! Many schools that once had these "co-ed" dorms have discontinued them. NONE will assign you a roommate of the opposite sex! Furthermore, if you try to spend the night in a girl's room or she in yours, you will get caught and you will both be expelled. You will get caught because others on the floor will be aware and will turn you in to the RA who in turn will report you to campus security, who in turn will arrive and enter the room, arrest you both and haul your tails to the nearest jail, where you will await the pleasure of the school's discliplinary board.
Bottom line: ya wanna screw around, do it off campus!

You have zero chance of getting a roommate of the opposite sex. The purpose of a college is for you to get a higher education, not to be your pimp. Co-ed dorms mean that both sexes live in the same building, not the same bedroom. Sorry.

As a former RA that's not going to happen and for good reason collges and universities have to maintain some kind of moral standing so that's why they don't pair up males and females together as roommates. There are co ed dorms where each floor is all male or female and have the one floor where it's mixed of male and female.

totally depends on the college. I went to two where the dorms were separate and one where they were co-ed, but that just meant that there were guys in one room and girls in the room next door. They didn't put a guy and a girl in the same room

No. If it is a coed dorms, girls will stay with girls in a room; and boy will stay with boys in a room; but they can all live in the same dorm.

It all depends on what college you go to. At my college, guys and girls live in separate buildings, but i know that some colleges do have co-ed living. my oppion is that guys and girls should be in different buildings or at least on separate floors, because trust me, there is enough to worry about in college without all of the pressure of someone of the opposite sex living in your room or right next door.
