Being human, when we "see" something, we are seeing our own perception of it... the way we have learned to look at things since the day we were born.

Can someone change the way they see something? Sure... but really no two people will see things the exact same way all the time... be it an actual tangible item (some people will notice the leaves of a tree first while others will see the patterns in the bark), or an intangible (being point of view on a particular issue.)

Of course... is your perception what is "really" there? Sure... but so is everyone else's "really" what's there... Are you confused yet? I am.

This is one of the reasons why therapists are so helpful in shorting out problems, because they can see things from a more objective view point. Everyone is going to make judgements based on there own personal experiences. It's part of the human condition. This problem has been debated in philosophy since Descartes. I think there are certain things that are always wrong and clearly uncontroversial. You probably have a gut feeling about a couple of things too. I think you can trust that.

I think its a combination of both. Its only when we compare notes with others who are observing too that we can reach the real measure of reality.
