Even in our last major fiasco/insurgent war in Vietnam there were major battles but there aren't any in Iraq so how will we know if we've won (or lost) for that matter?

We need to leave Iraq. Never should have been there at all.

When the Iraqi people can police and control the people in their country without foreign involvement we will have won. Saddam and his army have been ousted so not many of his troops are left there too fight. A civil war is raging there now and we are caught in the middle. The reason there were major battles throughout Vietnam is because we were fighting the Vietnamese army the whole time and never fully occupied the country. We occupied Iraq a long time ago and the government has been overthrown so there is no real force to fight besides the terrorist element their and as we have found out, they rarely fight using anything but guerrilla tactics.

In Vietnam and other wars we have fought there were major battles usually marked by the name of the location in which they were fought.
The war in Iraq is being fought in a relatively small section of the country, and every day there are many suicide or car bombings that kill as many as some of the major battles fought in other wars. These sudden attacks by a cowardly enemy (terrorist insurgents)are so frequent and random, and happen anywhere at any time, that it would be futile to name each one so we can call it a "Major Battle" with a name of its own. But that does not make these types battles insignificant.
This war is a different kind of war, but one of the most important in the recent history of our country. We have to fight this enemy on their soil or they will, I guarantee you, bring it back over here, and we will see more situations like 911 and worse, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans right here.
Unfortunately, this war will not be won anytime soon because the enemy wants to commit genocide on Americans, and will never rest until they succeed or until we get them first. It is a catch 22 because if we withdraw and do nothing, they will come over here to kill us, and if we prevent that by fighting over there, the insurgents who are foreign fighters from other countries sympathetic to Alchaida , will never stop coming. You cannot negotiate with terrorists, so this war must be fought whether we like it or not.
I fear we will not know if we have won or not until a whole nation is annihilated, and hopefully it's not ours. Just remember, THEY started it, and THEY will never stop until somebody wins. We are always on the defensive even when we are on the offensive. I wish some people who are always trying to protest this war and do anything they can to undermined it, would just realize the damage they are causing by making the enemy think we are weak. WWII was only won because we were all united in our determination to defeat the horrible enemy. When we are divided we will fall, guaranteed.

War is not about battles. I
War ended back in 2003 I was there. This, what is happening now is no different then all the other places we have been. Look we are still in Germany. When was WWII again and we are still there. Are we still at war with them too?
It is not are war now. It is theirs, the Iraq people to decide. We are more like on loan police men right now. Keepers of peace, in a time when civil war and unrest among brothers.

Iraq isn't a warfare, i do not recognize how that numskull of a president has it rated. The very last declared warfare the rustic became in became WWII. And to respond to your question, became Korea gained ? In my e book..NO! became Vietnam gained ? As a Vietnam vet, Hell no it became no longer gained. barren area hurricane became gained because there became a "PLAN" and the troops the position equipped up and no man or woman took some thing with no interest earlier the action became began. This conflict in Iraq is totally no longer gained both, I for one see thanks to many parallels with Iraq and Vietnam. i will say tho at lest the rustic discovered a lesson with Vietnam and now the troops are completely supported by skill of the accepted public no matter if or not they disagree with the conflict.

We'll win this war the same way we won viet nam. In small battles, until our young people start becoming scarce. And then the Liberals will say oops we're sorry for what the reps. did to you. Here's some money. Hope you feel better now.
Our biggest battles in nam were fought with our backs to the enemy, trying to get out alive. There'll be no end to the insurgency.
Watch and see!

We need to lure all of the insurgents to a specific area and destroy them. The battle is with the terrorists and sectarians - maybe we should close off the borders of Iraq and start eliminating the ones in-country. Or bait them all to Iran and nuke 'em. Seriously, I don't know how we can win, I just know that we MUST.

It's NOT about a "war on terror" or "fighting for freedoms". It's REALLY all about THIS!...
