89 daytona is fuel injected, if throttle body injected the replacement pump will have to put out 14.5 to 15 psi if multiport 35 psi regulated to 40 psi max. with suitable flow rates. yes it is possible to suck through a dead in-tank pump. but why would you want to[temporary cure to permanent problem] drop the tank and replace the pump if it is bad [don't forget the auto shutdown relay could be giving trouble too, located in power module by battery.
as always you can be dead only once, block up car with safety stands, keep a working[A.B.C.] extinguisher handy and no smoking

Technically, yes, practically no.

An In-line pump capable of delivering the same pressure could replace your in tank pump, just like in a number of custom cars. However, a pump like that would cost you more than replacing the original pump, including labor. Also you would have the restriction of the old pump in the tank as well as the in-tank filter, that It might as well be clogged, and caused the pump failure in the first place.
There is no shortcut to a successfully and professional repair.

i own a repair shop, and yes you can use on on it,,but you,ll have to use a pressure regulator on it to reduce the pressure some on it, i have one on my s-10 truck right now ,and i used a good regulator on it and it runs better now than it ever has but i took the tank one out of it,and just put a flilter on the end of the tube once i extended it,it works great, and if it goes out i can change it in less than ten minutes.but it will work fine like that, good luck i hope this help,s.
