Because I think there are people who don't know how to do a search, or they get so many results they don't know how to narrow it down to what they want. And there's a social and community aspect to this site that appeals to some people. And a lot of people are lazy.

You know I just answered a question like that and told the person that they need to learn how to use search engines and stop depending on Yahoo Answers folks to do the "heavy lifting." It's a sick, sad world when someone accesses a site on the internet to get answers to questions already on the internet which would often take them less time to find than it does to write and post a question here. Go figure.

Sometimes you gain insight on new things when the answer is informative. The person answering may, in addition to the relevent info, offer new ideas or knowledge of something the person asking the question along with many others, may not have known. You know the old saying, "you learn something new everyday!"

Sometimes a seemingly obviously answerable question is a taunt... sometimes it's a request for opinions, sometimes it's just a cry for help. I guess there are a lot of reasons. Only the person asking can know.

lol. yeah. it's mostly to see what kind of responses they'd get here. some of them cant be bothered looking online for answers and would rather have someone answer their questions for them. this is mainly because online information have a lot of irrelevant information to what they are trying to find and it takes a while to look and find that information, which therefore they'd rather save time asking here. otherwise they just dont think to look it up online.

Either an inability to think clearly enough to formulate the search terms, or a compulsion to participate/receive responses in this forum.

I think in the homework & related categories the former reason has greater prominance than elsewhere.

Some people don't know how to search for things and/or don't know if the sources they find are reliable.

There are countless sites that contain false information.

I agree with Laura. I really don't mind though, for I love to search and have done so numerous time for my friends. So, this is no different...I learn new things in the process.

Because it is fun to get answers from real people.

I too do that sometimes and I hate when people paste links instead.

Why should they do it when someone else can do it for them? People have become spoilled- as long as there are people answering they will probably ask.
