Yes it does and it has become an enormous problem with Bush, a far right evangelical Christian, in office. He purposely used religion to get elected.

It has played a role for good and bad since our inception. Religion plays a huge role in what's going on in the country currently and not all of it is positive.

But we shouldn't forget the power of the church to get Prohibition passed. Can you imagine that happening today?? Yet they had that kind of political power in those days that they changed the landscape of America.

And of course their ill-conceived attempt to curtail alcohol consumption contributed to some of the worst crime and bloodshed this nation had seen up till that time in our history.

Yes. Too much so if you ask me and you did. Not all religions mind you, just a narrow interpretation of Christianity plays a role anything else is excluded.

Yes it does. In internal policies, it is like "God wants us to make a lot of money and has made us better than anybody else". In external policies, it is like "God wants us to make a lot of money and to get everything out of these inferior people".

Insofar as making a moral decision which are probably like 95% of the decisions, yes. I would say most of the time it's probably a good thing.
