I need my existing driveway ripped out and a new base and asphalt put in. My driveway is 68 feet by 21 feet and have no way to tell if the contractors are giving me fair estimates.

No offense to you at all, but I see this kind of Q a lot, and wonder why it is that distrust is so prevalent in this country, as it regards contractors.

Certainly there are Pirates all over the place, but the best ways to know, are check yellow pages, check years in business, licensing, check above all recent references, and then ask those who've had work done. Any decent contractor should be happy to supply that info. Decide,,after "multiple" estimates what you believe to be fair, but consider one factor,,,PLEASE!!!

If you could do the job,,,would you??? If not, then accept that contractors do what others can't or won't,,,do.

what were the estimates? all depends on where you live...

might i suggest stamped concrete? a little more expensive than asphalt, but 100X more beautiful as well as stronger, longer life span and adopts the look of any stone, brick, slate, wood you desire :)
