Through primaries - like many others answers have said. Currently only the far right show up for the Republican primaries & the far left show up for the Democrat primaries. So the moderates don't stand a chance.

I think the extremists on both sides are destrying our political situation & making it so that the common American doesn't have a good choice once the November election comes up.

If you want to make a difference in our system, we need to all show up for primaries. If more moderates voted in primaries, we'd have more moderates in the November elections.

they elect them through caucuses and voting booths, email me if u dont know what a caucus is. the candidate is then announced at the conventions. it used to be, a long time ago, however, that the candidates were actually chosen at convention
