Ok, I am in Zelda:Ocarina of Time. In lake Hylia, where the scarecrows are, and like after you get a song for the scarecrows song (since you get to make it your self), well the reward he gives you is that if you play his song then his friend will come and help you , well I was trying to find some place where I could play that song and the scarecrow would come up, and I finally did (on the roof of the lab at lake hylia) well then after he comes up after me playing the song, then what? Like he won't talk and he doesn't do anything, so whats the purpose? Is there another spot I should be going to, to play the song? Or am I doing something wrong, to make him do "something" please help!!!

The Scarecrow song is necessary to recieve all the heart pieces and gold skultas... Whenever you play the song and the scarecrow pops up... it allows you to use your hookshot to get where ever he is. You would normally not be able to use your hook shot to get to the top of the house. There are a couple of other places you can use him. Whenever your fairy just flies off and randomly highlights a spot, chances are you can summon the scarecrow to get to that spot. You need the scarecrow to completely explore the fire temple as an adult. I don't know how far along you are so I don't want to spoil anything for you.

the first answer is completely correct. the scarecrow is not there to 'do something' or talk or anything
the reason for the scarecrow is nothing more than a way to let you get to other places by using your hookshot

get the hook shot and shoot him. you will then be on the roof of the building climb the ladder and get a prize watch out for the bird
