No, scientists aren't guessing about where it's buried, 'cause scientists know that the Noah story is just a myth. There was no Noah, there was no ark.
There is no evidence in any of the earth's geological record that supports the notion of a global flood. None. Anywhere.
And the ark is completely impossible. Using the size given in the bible, Noah couldn't have taken even 1/1000th of today's species of animals on the ark (and that's ignoring the "can't put the lions next to the zebras or they'll eat them" logistical problems). It's simply impossible for there to have been a boat that carried two of every species.
It's a story made to illustrate a point -- a FABLE. It's not real. And there are no reputable scientists who are looking for the ark, who care about the ark, or who would waste their time having anything to do with an impossibility -- there are too many real questions to answer.

No one knows for sure. The most likely places have been mentioned by previous answerer's.
As for Mr Well Traveled, he needs to travel to the University of Pennsylvania's archeology Dept. They have found in the excavations of ancient cities a layer of flood silt that as they state represented a major catastrophic event. This event would have covered most of the "known" world at the time. Maybe this is where the idea for his "Fable" came from. Science is a constantly changing process. The more we learn, the more we realize things we took for facts 20 years ago, were wrong. Science is a great thing, but science lovers need to realize that they can make educated guesses about ancient times but that is all. Science is pretty sure they know how the Pyramids were built but they cannot be 100% sure. But they are there. As for the animals taken on the Ark, I believe they would have taken all the animals they "knew" about in their world. I doubt they knew about Mexican fruit bats, and Eastern Groundhogs.

There was no Noah's Ark. But if there was one, I'm sure Noah would have used the wood from it to build a new home and any of its remains for firewood. Even if he did decide to abandon a boat that he spent years and years building, I'm sure someone else would have salvaged it by now.

In defense of Well Said to Aubry...
I could go on for hours about how Christianity Parallels Pagan Religions but....
In 1492 Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue.... at this point people thought the world to be flat.... I suggest it to be their lack of knowledge if you will....
Considering that the "Great Flood" as you call it was well before the time of Christ..... and fables were very common among Canaanites....Greeks.... Anglo Saxons.... etc....
The Original Hebrew writings state "In the Beginning the GOD(S) created the heaven and earth,,,, and the Hebrew Text refers to your Jesus as Yeshua.....
Anyway..... There is no Arc.....

Explorer's have found huge shapes and major big beams of wood in the top of Mountain. Covered with ice and snow. From the airial view they are almost sure it is Noah's Arch. After the Great flood, the Arch settled on top of this Mountain in a crevas, and the occupants of the Arch, walked down the Mountain. Not sure, but I think it is Mt. Arafat ?? When more research is done and they can prove this, then the Bible is accurate in that case.
