This turtle has a orange/red bottom but isnt a paint turtle, it has yellow markings on the side of its head. Green/greyish color. With a long narrow snout with a pig like look to its tip of its nose

How do you know it is not a Painted turtle? There are several subspecies and variations in the Painteds.

If it is absolutely NOT a Painted, then it is probably a Cooter or Slider. There are many variations of these.

Softshells have LONG snouts, but lack the colorful bellies and tend to be sand colored rather than greenish. Probably not a mud or musk either- same basic problems with the belly color. MIGHT be a map turtle.

Try the photo galleries at http://www.tortoise.org or http://www.austinsturtlepage.com to see if they help.

If you find one that is close, tell us and tell us what the differences are and we can help more.

With Aquatic turtles, the males have longer tails and longer toes/claws.

I just bought 3 more for my pond and one of them definately had a longer tail and toes. Next thing I new he was mounting the other turtle the next day in the pond. (:

It sounds like a musk turtle. They have a couple of variations in color.
