You use it in cooking all the time. That's what measuring ingredients usually is: measuring the volume. Some cooks measure by weight, but that's pretty rare.

first off I don't know what u mean by volume. Second u stole my name lol :). Third if u mean like voice volume then when u almost get run over by a truck, or if u mean the scientific volume on;y if u become a scientist but if ur not then never it's just another way of teachers and principles of torching us lol :)
