There are two kinds of people in your life: The ones you want to share yourself with, and the ones who are just there for background color, just "a part of life's rich tapestry." People who deliberately hurt you fall in the second category. They are here for your observation, for Your amusement and education. So when they start inflicting pain, the instant you realize that you're hurting (you need to get good at this; notice right away when you're hurting and immediately take action), put on your "Observer Hat" and just study them and the situation. Gather more information How long have they been acting or feeling this obnoxious way? How intensely? What do you suppose makes them so weak? Mark there attacks in a journal, or on a calendar on your wall. Letting them see you doing this could be very helpful.
High class people are always exceptionally gracious. The mean ones are just informing you of their own rightful place on your priority page (low). Out of the billions of people on this planet, a number of them are very much like you and need you to be your very own best self. Do it for them.
Everybody who accomplishes anything on this planet has enemies. Study biographies of great people, find some like yourself and think of them when you're standing alone.

"Thicker skin" is a metaphor for emotional sensitivity (or lack therof). If someone tells you your skin is "too thin", they think you are being too sensitive to verbal jabs. If you cry at a harsh look, they could be right. If you are undergoing verbal abuse, and are being told to "suck it up and take it", that is another matter!
It is important to have the proper amount of self esteem. Don't think of yourself either too highly or too lowly than you actually are. Try to find and maintain a good emotional/mental balance as a person. It will help you deal with the jerks that do appear in this life.

To be thin skinned means when people pick on you, you get offended and upset easily.
To be thick skinned means that picking doen't bother you, and you can usually come up with some zingers right back.
dude: "Yo! MM, what was that dog I saw you with the other night. Oh, my bad that was no dog that was your date"
MM: Yo, dude, I was with your (girlfriend / sister/ mom (careful on picking on mom's, some ppl get very upset), etc.
Other than that, you may need to let us know the context it was in. If you passed out when you saw a cut finger, then a thicker skin would mean to toughen up about your fear of blood. Etc. Etc.

A thicker skin is like a callous on your hand. Tough on the outside but still soft underneath. To develop you have to learn to put things in proper order and not over react to things.
(in short don't be such a sissy and get upset so easy)

You have to work hard at not letting things bother you so much, It is hard to explain how, if things make you angry, you have to try to not let those things bother you, you could try counting to 10 or taking some deep breaths. If it is that you get emotional, that is tougher to control, you could again try the breathing and see if it helps, but mostly I think it is mentally preparing yourself to handle things that come your way.

Well, it takes some practice, but in general, learn to laugh things off. If someone says something offensive to you, chalk it up to the bad day *they're* having - not you. Or if people are making jokes about you, learn to laugh along with them, and then dish it right back - friendly banter.

By not allowing those who make fun at your expense the satisfaction of knowing they got you angry. Eventually, they will give up and find an easier to upset target.

It means be more tolerant of people, their actions and comments. It also means who ever told you that believes that you are overly sensitive and take everything personally. Hope this didn't come off as rude. I don't want to make you cry.

depends on where on the body and for what purpose. i'll give 2 examples that come to mind. 1) the "sewing" finger- lightly burn it a bit with a flame little by little, bit by bit, and 2) the soles of your feet for walking on tougher ground, which is done by walking on tougher ground, little by little, bit by bit.... one word of caution though, don't walk on hot concrete for an extended period of time though... you'll blister up later on
