Because of fear, you don't follow and your considered an outcast.. if a few follow more follow.. and then soon most will follow, and the ones that are different are mocked and so they change and to try and fit in... for example during world war two in Germany, it was because of fear that people followed Hitler, not because they wanted to but if they didn't they would be put to death and the ones that were different were killed and so people decided to just follow and obey then to be different and be killed... and for them it was the better option... "hmm should I follow and live? or should I not follow and be different?" most people would pick the first one... I probably even would. Another example and this really happened... My grandmother an American citzen come to visit me in Canada quite often and she usually takes the bus, one time on her way back to the USA at the boarder the bus was stopped a pulled over. Armed masked men came onto the bus demanding that everyone get off the bus and go over and wait. My grandmother being disabled this wasn't something she could do easily, she has back problems and can't stand for long periods of time, of course because of fear everyone on the bus went over and waited, but my grandmother she asked them why and they said because the bus was some threat and that there might be a possible "terrorist" in the bus and they said to take nothing.. and she asked "well what about my passport and stuff, your gonna make me go and wait over there..with my back problems" and then she asked "why does your face have to be covered? were all just Americans coming back home and were treated like terrorists!" and then the man asked why she was giving him so much trouble and why she wasn't just doing what the others did and she said because I shouldn't have to be considered a terrorist untill proved otherwise, i'm an American like you and have my rights and should not be treated like this... this is something that happened.. I don't remember exactly how it went but it went something like that.. and what I think is people follow... and sheep follow.. if they don't then they are different.. weather what they follow be good or bad, people will follow.. and so we resemble sheep. Sheep are one of the dumbest animals.. and a lot of the time as humans we are dumb.. we do the wrong thing... but I think the main reason is fear...

It would not work if everyone was a leader all the time. I think everyone has the capacity to be a leader or an alpha but it all depends on the group you are in at the time. What happens when everyone thinks they are right and refuse to back down? People fight and people die. As for us being sheep of our government there is an even better reason for that. The government is a juggernaut no single man can go against. Since everyone has a different idea of what is wright and wrong there is no way we will agree on anything long enough to organize. I think artificial conflicts may be nurtured in this country to prevent us from getting on the same page.

I am very proud to say that I am an individual and never conform to the norm. This behavior made life hard on me at times during my 21 year carrier in the regimented U.S. Navy. Sometimes I felt like a fish out of water, no pun intended. I have always set my own pace and followed my own path. This comes with a price however, as I do not have a lot of friends. I have many surface friends at work but it never goes beyond that. However, I credit this somewhat unusual personality of mine in having a part in my 31 year marriage with my spouse and devotion to my family. I drink very little and have zero tolerance for drug use and have little to do with those that allow themselves to follow those into a path of stupidity. My point, I do not flock and therefore I pay a price and my guess is most do not want to pay that price and therefore they flock.

Humans are effectively pack animals. We behave more like wolves or dogs rather than sheep. One of the reasons dogs are mans best friend and were relatively easy to domesticate, we share a common social structure. As do jackels and apes incidentally.

insofar as humans DO act like sheep, it's because they're social animals, and it's instinctual.
