I remember this question on a test in high school and nobody got the answer. Our teacher told us it was in Edith Hamilton's Mythology but we never did find it. All these years later, this question still pops into my head once in a while.
Does anyone know?

Ichor instead of blood, according to the legends. It is said that consumption of nectar and ambrosia would transform a mortal similarly ... interesting !

It was called "ichor" clearer and lighter than blood.
