a tampon is basically a piece of cotton that is just wrapped up tight, sometimes braided, and you insert it into your vagina gently and when its full, 2-5 hrs later, you pull the little string thats attached to it and it comes out, with the cotton full of blood and lining from your period.
thats all it does, absorbe the blood and lining and some girls cant use them, so to be safe, i would go to a guidance councelor at school or your mom and talk to them about it, or just use pads

I am sorry to say, but it sounds like you are not old enough to be asking this question. Because if you were old enough you would know what a tampon is and you would know how they work and what they are for. So why dont you go and ask your mommy for the answer to this.

A tampon is a masturbatory device disguised as an internal blood-catcher used by women during their period. This device was created by the devil. Think of it as Satan's little cotton finger used to seduce you into sexual arousal.
Or perhaps it's just an alternative to a pad for females who prefer a less noticable method.

It's kind of like a sponge that women use to soak up menstrual blood before it leaves their body. They're usually made of compressed cotton - kind of like a cotton bud, but squashed up really tight. It's inserted into the vagina, and soaks up blood as it comes out of the cervix. You take them out after a couple of hours (they've got a handy string attached so you can pull it out), and put in a new one. You only use them during your period.
