What else could i do to fix it?
Is it fixable?
Would it be worth paying $50 to get some 1 in to look at it when we can just by a DVD burner for $100.
Are DVD burners easy to install.

Thanks

Extra details:You can hear it trying to open.
Somtimes it does open but you have to try about 100 times and once you put somthing in it takes forever to take it out.

Most optical drives have a tiny hole on their front that you can push a paperclip or pin into to force the CD tray out. If it continually never opens or closes, it may be a problem with the hardware (the drive itself). If you have software installed that uses the CD drive like Roxio or something that runs in the background, it may be tying up the drive and disallowing it to eject. Try uninstalling that softare and installing it fresh to see if that helps.

Either way, I'd recommend upgrading - I mean why not? DVD drives are so cheap these days and hten you can watch/record DVDs as well. Are they easy to install? Well, if you're comforable opening your computer and following technical instructions that will come with it, then no. If you're a total newbie, then it might be.

Hi, I'm happy to help you with the information you're giving me. First thing to try is double-click on "My Computer", then right-click on your optical drive and choose "Eject", and see if it opens Ok and if it even tries to open or not. If it opens or tries to open and you have problems when you click on the eject physically, then the problem may just be the drive that needs to be replaced. As far as I know a DVD Burner is not $100. I live in Canada and purchase DVD burners all the time for my customers at $55. If the problem is physical, then it's not fixable unless you know how to play with those and for the price, it's not worth it. Any CD or DVD Roms/burners are super easy to install. You just make sure no power is on your computer, open the side, slide it out, slide the new one in, make sure the cable that goes to the motherboard is safely connected as well as a power cable that comes from the power supply and you're done. You turn on your computer, and it will do its job of recognizing it. Hope this helps!
