My daughter is in 7th grade. Last year in sixth grade every time she was assigned a research report it was a major project that involved buying project board and ink for my color printer because they require pictures. Now I'm seeing it again in 7th grade. Also, these kids are not allowed to bring the projects on the bus so I have to drive her to and from school on those days. I never had to do this type of thing in school when I was a kid - not even high school (or college for that matter). And it isn't that they are being prepared for real life because presentations in the workplace are usually done on Power Point.
Okay, I know that this was more like a rant than a question but I just want to know - what is the benefit?

In 6th grade one teacher assigned one for every quarter. Another teacher assigned 2. So far this year (which is only a month old), she has one and I'm anticipating more. The research projects make sense - I just don't get the reason for presentations each and every time. They should save that for a last big one at the end of the school year.
Would the school commitee hear me if I complained to them?
I'm in MA.

good points about public school - it is btw. I think I'll start off by asking the teachers individually at the P/T conference after progress reports.
also, you are right about not pressuring for A's. My daughter is a a solid C student who can get B's if she really wants them and will fail when she slacks off - so I pressure her for a high C.

And- she's not in any advanced classes. These are regular 7th grade classes.
