I have found that an extra antenna and signal booster are a waste of money. Usually, when you have signal problems, it is due to poor placement of the router. If you have a chimney or other brick structure in your house, you will have trouble. Place the router in a position that it does not have to broadcast through a solid object.

For some installations, you run a long wire and add an Anypoint adapter, which rebroadcasts the signal to another part of the building.

wireless notebooks with internal wireless cards have wires that run from the wireless card, up through the bottom of your lcd, and along the edges of your screen. they attach to receivers on either side of the latch at the top of your screen. in essence with the lid open your laptop is its own antenna.

Yes you can get an antenna. I have never done so my self but I know people that have. My guess is you have to find one that is compatible your wireless nic.

Only if your wifi card or computer has an antenna connection. If it does, search on "cantenna." If it doesn't, and you feel like doing a mod yourself, try http://www.hackaday.com and see what folks there did to add antennas.
