Funny you should ask this question, I was just talking to a scholar this afternoon concerning the Mayan connection to the Egyptians. Officially there is nothing proven, but as scientists learn more they are beginning to see a correlation in the two cultures even though there were supposedly centuries between them. The probelm is that the Spaniards destroyed just about all of the Mayan records in order to instill Christianity in Americain. so much is lost forever.

There is some scientific indication that the Atlantis really existed. If this were the case, travel between the two continients would have been much easier. Thre is no irrefutable proof in any scientific discipline, however things are beginning to look as if there is a connection. I know an anthropologist who is an expert on bead jewelry. she has studied extensively in Saudi Arabia and in the Americas. She finds tremendous similarity in their beadwork. Curious, No?

A final note, scientist are beginning to believe that the mayan culture is much older than originally thought.

Given that Egypt was a part of Alexander the Great's empire when the Mayans were developing their civilization, and a Moslem state when the Aztecs flourished, the fact that large-scale Pyramid building had fallen out of fashion over a thousand years in Egypt before the Mayans were just beginning to build theirs, and the fact that if you can actually read Egyptian, Mayan, and Aztec Hieroglyphs, they share nothing in common and are linguistically as different as English and Chinese, then no, there isn't.

People have been trying to prove a connection for decades, and so far, no convincing evidence has been brought forth. All of the similarities such as pyramids, art styles and hieroglyphs are superficial, and so far, none of the supposed artifacts proving a transatlantic voyage has stood up to criticism, either. The "cocaine mummies" for example, may have been contaminated by poor excavation and storage, may have been fakes made centuries later, or may have in fact ingested a now-extinct African plant with compounds similar to South American Drugs. (And the Aztecs and Mayans themselves had no cocaine, that was the Incans)

It's like saying that because castles, suits of armor, and a warrior code existed in both Europe and Japan that Medieval Europeans sailed to Japan and taught them everything they knew.

And consider this: Is it not at least mildly insulting to the native people of North and Central America that they could not come up with their own civilizations, that they needed help from the Egyptians who, for some reason, taught the people of Mesoamerica about things that they themselves had abandoned and/or forgotten? When Egypt was in decline and the ruling classes were Greek, Roman, Christian, or Muslim? That the Mayans and Aztecs couldn't figure out how to express themselves with the written word without being shown how?

the term baallam has a correlation in the phoenician/tyrian word for lord ;"baallam"!!!there is much new chemical evidence to show that bronze object found in central america could have come from both asian and mediterranean sources!!!the stepped pyramids of mayan and aztec centers show a decided affinity to the egyptian types of the earliest times!!!aztec claimed to come from a land to the north of mexico and were not native to mexico proper;but were a seafarering group who sought the secure surroundings of an island in the middle of a lake which they knew they could defend against the native mexica peoples around lake texcoco's shores!!!as their former island in the north had protected them!!many explorations and exoduses of ancient times are still "uncharted" and most of us don't even know of the readily available facts about cultures or how they branched out and interacted!!pottery types in north africa and lybia are very similar to acoma, zuni and pueblo type in shapes and decoration!!and new findindings show that chumash bloodlines are alive all along the coastal regions of the americas to terra del fuego from alaska from time immemorial however this DNA is little in evidence beyaond the rockies toward the eastern united states in native populations!!even though a single rare example was found in situ near cahoakia..the moundbuilder site in the midwest river drainage area!!new and startling discoveries are occurring daily via this "new science" discipline!ibises were sacred to the egyptians and they are abundant in the area of florida;however they are red as opposed to the egyptian white or sacred ibises!!crocodilles and alligators are abundant in egyptian lore and religious symbology!!

Some people have claimed that because they both had pyramids, they must have had contact, and possibly through "Atlantis," but that's pretty far-fetched. There are civilizations all over the world, from Egypt to India to China to Mexico to Illinois, which have pyramids. The common thread between them is that there is no common thread--some were used for burial sites, some for religious rites, you name it. The reason they probably used pyramids is that in the ancient world there were no steel girders--if you wanted a building to stand, you gave it a large base and a small top.

Just expanding on what Oobily Ghepp said... Let's not forget the "Cocaine Mummies".

In Naturwissenschaften, German scientist Svetla Balabanova (1992) and two of her colleagues reported findings of cocaine, hashish and nicotine in Egyptian mummies. The findings were immediately identified as improbable on the grounds that two of the substances are known to be derived only from American plants - cocaine from Erythroxylon coca, and nicotine from Nicotiana tabacum. The suggestion that such compounds could have found their way to Egypt before Columbus' discovery of America seemed patently impossible.

The study was done as part of an ongoing program of investigating the use of hallucinogenic substances in ancient societies. The authors themselves were quite surprised by the findings (Discovery, 1997) but stood by their results despite being the major focus of criticism in the following volume of Naturwissenschaften. Of the nine mummies evaluated, all showed signs of cocaine and hashish (Tetrahydrocannabinol), whereas all but one sampled positive for nicotine. It is interesting too that the concentrations of the compounds suggest uses other than that of abuse.

Also the Olmec monuments of Eastern Mexico.

Come on now....Panther Babies???? Please. That is as ridiculous as it sounds. Any 10 yr old child can tell you the ethnic background of those head monuments... African *******.

The Olmec domain extends from the Tuxtlas mountains in the west to the lowlands of the Chontalpa in the east, a region with significant variations in geology and ecology. Over 170 Olmec monuments have been found within the area, and eighty percent of those occur at the three largest Olmec centers, La Venta, Tabasco (38%), San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan, Veracruz (30%), and Laguna de los Cerros, Veracruz (12%).

Many early scholars were reluctant to believe that a society as sophisticated as the Olmec could have developed in the tropical habitat of the Gulf coast, and some hypothesized that the Olmec had originally migrated from elsewhere.

The Olmec predominated in their lands from about 1200 BC to about 400 BC and they are, in fact, claimed by many to be the progenitors and mother culture of every primary element common to later Mesoamerican civilizations.

The actual ethnicity of the Olmec remains unknown.

Fact.....there were people living in Ireland before the Celts arrived.
Fact.....there were a strange people living in the Canary Islands when the Spanish arrived, and said they were surprised...they had not known any one else survived the disaster.
Fact....Greek and Roman coins have been found up and down the coast of South & Central America for years.
Fact....Vikings were scared off the beaches of North America by white people running after them.
Fact....Ancient mummies (BC era) with blonde and red hair, wearing tartan kilts have been discovered in the deserts of China.
Fact....Aztecs told of a legend of a white man with red hair and a beard that taught them how to make calendars and such.
Fact....Inuits, or Eskimos, were not surprised to see white people on the shores of North America.
Fact...Phoenicians started up a huge trade with tin taken from mines in Great Britain in 1500 BC.

A correlation between Ancient Egypt and the Mayans, the Aztecs, and/or the Incans?
Quite possible.
No one wants to admit to it in fear of looking stupid.

I think there is. Especially mayans who were pyramid builders. There are also Olmec sculptures that resemble Africans so some scholars suggest that the Ancient African (egyptinas) and Ancient Americans may have traded.
