Don't worry your baby will learn as many languages as she wants. Talk to her in English and let your in laws talk to her in Hindi, it does not matter. She will learn both.

For your child to speak english fluently and as a first language, she needs more english around her.... Ask the nanny and her grandparents to say things in both english and hindi.... If the nanny doesn't speak english you may need to get a different nanny... Right now she is picking up more hindi because more of her time is spent being spoken to in that language....

As your child gets a bit older enrolling her in an english speaking preschool will help.... Even if it's just a few hours a day in the preschool... Your child has a very luck and unique chance to become fluent in 2 languages from the start... Don't take all the hindi away but moderate it so she is learning both languages at the same time...

Maybe you can ask your daughter's nanny to talk to her in both languages, then when she grows up, not only will she learn english, but hindi too. your nursery rhymes are good, but i don't think that's goin' to be enough if she is with her nanny all the time and just learning hindi. try to max it out between the both of you, so that you won't feel so stressed out about her language ok? maybe even take turns during the day and some nights before bed, to teach her both. maybe 3 hrs.of english and another 3hrs. later for hindi. how does that sound? where are you from?

This could be good to some extent... She will slowly learn both languages....don't be surprised if when she starts talking, she willl combine the 2 together. Babies won't know they are 2 different ones until they get older.

Continue speaking to her in English, she'll pick up on it, if anything, does your nanny speak English? If she does, ask her to speak both to her, or minimize the amount of Hindi she uses.
Babies are very smart!

Dont be too concerned, as long as your baby is hearing english 30% or more of the time than she will have both languages as her mother tongue. Does your nanny speak english at all? If so, you could ask her to try speaking in english part of the time. If all she hears is english at bedtime, than that wouldnt be enough, but I'm sure you talk to her more than that!

hmm.. its more of what the child hears most. but my kids for example most people around them are English speaking but on some kid shows and some friends speak Spanish so my kids are speaking English with some Spanish.
Your child may just be lucky and get to know two languages.

But otherwise,

is there a way to cut down on nanny time and increase mommy time?

does the nanny know english or the in-law?

ask them to try using both and that you mean no disrespect but thats what you prefer.

dont worry though your child will do just fine either way.

Nanny must speak English and tell them that this is a preparation for her preschool and it would be confusing for the child. Let her watch and listen to children programs (all in English versions). She will learn both languages on her own for the meantime English is a must to all concern.

If her nanny can speak english tell your nanny to speak engilsh as much as possible and you talk to her in english. Then make sure she is around english speaking people quite a bit. After she is older like 3rd grade(assuming she's still a toddler)then if the nanny is still around you could have your nanny try to teach her some hindi. It'll make things easier for her in high school when she has to take a foriegn lang.

She'll probably pick up both--babies' brains are designed to make sense of whatever sounds they hear all the time. She'll pick up key words in both languages and may even confuse the two languages when she starts putting two or three words together. By the time she's a few years old, though, and ready to start school, she should have the two languages all sorted out.

Does her nanny speak English? If so, ask her to talk to her in English. Your baby will pick up on which ever language that is spoken to her most often. But don't be too alarmed, young children are more capable of learning multiple languages than adolescents and adults.
