The entire atmosphere of the earth is Spherical, or in the Shape of a Sphere. Hence: The Earth is round, the Sky is round, The Earth's Atmosphere is round.
When a shuttle launches, it flies through the Earth's Atmosphere. No matter where it would return, it would enter back into the Atmosphere because it is around the earth.
I believe it was Sir Isaac Newton who discovered this theory. He discovered how things float in the atmosphere. However, I am not sure about this fact.

Well since the earth is round I would say the sky is too.
