The overpaid jobs are a thing of the past. The Unions are a thing of the past. We are in a global economy and need to compete. I knew a lot of people on the line in Detroit and they were definitely overpaid. When you can do a job stoned out of your mind, you are overpaid. We have to adapt to new types of careers. There are more service jobs now, and there is money to be made, but you have to work harder for it now. This trend began in the last 70's.

When a union contract has a 'job bank' which allows for underutilized individuals to sit around and draw high hourly pay, things have gotten out of hand. The idea that we can pay people to sit on their duffs and still be competitive is laughable. As you're aware, Japanese automanufacturers make approximately 2400.00 per automible sold in the US. These profits are realized due to a management and labor structure which encourages employees to streamlined and increase productivity. In the US, unions seek to keep things as the exist and don't embrace change as it would harm their membership and dues tructure. I beleive that the time for unions has past just as the time for dinosaurs passed many eons ago.........

Well, I blame the Unions. They didn't protect their employees
even tho those people have paid into their care for as long as
they worked in factories. Unions are the ones who let good-
paying jobs go to Mexico and elsewhere so they don't have to
pay Americans the kind of salaries they desired. There are still
high-paying jobs and we have lots of millionaires in America.
Look at our pro sports athletes....man, talk about big salaries.
They sure make more than the president of the united states
(whoever happens to be in office). Aspiring to find the job with
the salary you desire is commendable. Go for it.
