Actually, I married one. Perhaps she isn't typical. I'm a democrat, but old school, not liberal. I've known an awful number of uptight/rude liberals, democrats, green party members, etc., as well as republicans and conservatives. They just weren't uptight or rude around me.
Maybe it's just that you are careless with what you say, insulting to total strangers, and then, for some insane reason, expect them to be polite to you.
Reread your statement and wonder no more.
