after living here only a year or so, i think houston has a lot to offer for all people no matter what stage in life you are. jobs are generally plentiful, housing can be cheap depending on where you want to live, and there are great schools in both the private and public sectors. entertainment, culture, great food, and adventure can be found throughout the city. i think some of the walkways along the bayous are simply stunning and just take you to another place. the weather sucks, but once you get past that and establish a close and friendly relationship with the air conditioner, you are good to go!!
i have lived in a couple other cities in texas, austin and fort worth. i wouldnt rank houston as the best, but i know i could have it worse and it does offer so much. :) we bought a house here in the past few months, so we like it well enough to settle here for the next few years at least.

It is easy to have things that you want because the housing is cheap. But the traffic is bad if you live in the burbs like I do.
The weather is humid, but I am used to that by now. If you are a real outdoorsy type of person, Houston isn't good unless you like boating or some other type of activity where you get wet often.
There are lots of good restaurants, thats why we are in the top fattest cities.
There is lots of culture as we have good thetre districts and museum districts.
We have good schools, and I think we have a pretty safe city. At least in the areas I frequent.
Good luck! Hope this helped!

That depends on what "you" deem quality. There is a great opportunity to make money and the cost of living is lower than most of the U.S. for a major city. But quality is not always measured in how much you have but sometimes in what you don't have. Such as........trees, waterfalls, changing colors of the seasons, mild climate and clean air to breathe. I lived in Houston for 20 years and just hate the thought of ever having to go back.

I lived there for a year and found it to be a huge American city with absolutely no soul whatsoever. I even found a website called
houstonitsworthit.com for people's reasons why they like Houston.
It starts out with all the reasons to not like Houston, and then says "Hey, but it's worth it."
Answers like "Because I like fat people" or "there's a strip club on every corner" or "the traffic lets me listen to my books on tape."

As with anywhere, it is what you make it. What are your personal requirements to create your own standard of"quality".
