the Pens have no money, the Lease is up in 2007 if the slots thing doesn't work they will be moved for sure. Jim Balsillie is the buyer and he ownes the Copps Coliseum and it fits over 19 thousand its NHL ready. and he will bring them to Canada.

Jim Balsillie promised to Lemieux to keep the team there if the city helps on the new arena which they most likely wont be doing cause the lease on the Mellon arena is up in 2007 i believe its June, and if it doesn't work out he will be moving the team. and if he can in will be in Hamilton he owns the Copps.

Jim Balsillie is not just moving them for fun Pittsburgh is not hockey anymore, the team has gone bankrupt 2 times the past 10 years, the team needs to be moved and to tell you the truth i see Gary Bettman turning down the idea cause of Crosby, Malkin and Fleury that team can be great and he will do everything in his power to stop that team to move to Canada. and thats when Bettman will lose his job.

He has a promise with Mario Lemieux that he will not move the team from Pittsburgh if the city can provide the funds for a new arena.

People are forgetting to look at this deal the other way. Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon University is somewhat of a hotbed for high-tech, and there is the possibility that Research in Motion could be looking to set up shop in America.

If the city of Pittsburgh cannot meet their obligations to a new arena, Ballsie will certainly move his team, American anti-trust laws prevent the NHL from preventing that (just ask Bob Irsay and Al Davis how much leagues can do to stop teams from moving at will)

it really is not any longer the perfect reason i have ever heard to relocate, yet there are far worse ones. as far because the city of Pittsburgh itself is going, i'm a nonetheless somewhat hacked off about the refs giving the tremendous Bowl to the Steelers a pair years in the past, yet i imagine the city itself is a distinctly cool position. Oh, and that i loved that sport at present, too. no longer because i'm an outstanding Pens fan, yet because it became an outstanding day of hockey:)

I read that they're either going back to Winnepeg as the Jets or Quebec as the Nordiques.

The people who are saying they can't be moved have no clue what they are talking about. Look at all the pro sports teams that have moved in the last 10 years.

I doubt it. At least not some time soon. Maybe in the future we'll see the Jets back.

Pittsburgh is a good hockey town.

I say move Phoenix/Florida/Tampa Bay /Carolina/Dallas to Winnipeg/Quebec/Windsor /Halifax/Hamilton

11 Canadian teams, 19 US teams would be a better balance.
