Well, the chromosome trumps a hormone any day. It is the male chromosome that inbreeds aggression as part of the male psyche. That is necessary because from the beginning of time it was the male who hunted and the female who took care of the children. The male has to be stronger in the legs, the arms and his trunk has to be muscled so that he can withstand physical challenges unimagined. The female, in earlier days, was no slouch physically but her muscles were made to back up anything and everything needed to provide nourishment and clothing for the children and for the male. While the female was created to nurture, the male was created to gather the food and that mean killing various animals and then trudging their carcasses home to be slaughtered/skinned, whatever, so it could be cooked. The aggression that is inherent in the male in varying degrees explains why most killers are male. It is in the DNA and in an enlightened society, boys are taught to have manners, to be kind, to love and need love in return, and all the other characteristics that make us human and set us apart from other animal forms. The female's DNA is loaded with a need to mother, to protect her young and to teach her young to function as a member of the village/family/country in a way that make the child a joy and a success. Men also have a relationship with their young much like the female - to greater or lesser degree. It is called becoming civilized and placing the aggressive part of his nature in its proper place "just in case." Hormones come into play because they can propel a behavior and men having some female in each of us - the female chromosome to greater or lesser degree is in each man - I would imagine the more female chromosome a man has the less likely he will be given to violence. Females on the other hand do not have any male chromosome in them. They are "all woman." Interesting that there is no such thing as "all man." Of course the sex hormone, so overwhelming in most men, is often a motivating force in driving one to violence, i.e. rape, and killing to cover up.
We are what we are made of, it is up to each parent to educate and teach tolerance, kindness, manners and respect for ourselves and others with each child under our supervision.

Hormones could be a reason.
Another reason could be the society. Violent behavior is still justified and/or reinforced in a man.
If a man laugh at you, it could mean you're defying his manliness.

We are naturally predisposed to violence more than females. We're the protectors , you are the baby makers. Sounds cheuvanistic, but it is a fact of nature and no amount of feminism can change what we are.
