Well, I dont want to have to pay for a costume this year, but I want to know what I could do using regular clothes? Any characters from movies, shows, cartoons, or video games would be great. Mabye a pirate, cowboy, other any other ideas you can give me

I don't know how this will work for you, but I did this and won my school's costume contest. The idea is that you dress as a Rubix cube. All you need in a big, square cardboard box and some colorful paper. You just cut the paper into squares, tape them to the box and cut some holes in it.

The grim reaper.
You just need a big black sheet, a bamboo pole (or a long stick of any kind) and hard material that can be cut easily (cardboard, foam boards etc).
Wrap the black sheet over your head like a hood and either keep it up or pull down over your back.
Cut a curve blade from the cardboard and attach it to the stick and spray the stick black.
Angel.
Use a white cloth to act as a toga dress (it works for male and females!)
Bend some wire to the shape of wings (they don't have to be big. about 1 foot each) and sew white cloth over them. You can either add feathers or not.
use gold or silver christmas tinsel as your halo.
Greek god/godness/hero
drap white cloth over body like the toga for the angel.
wear sandals.
attach(glue,staple,pin, however) green leaves to a string for olive crown.

I am makeing my son a pirate costume. I just used his snow boots for boots and a pair of black or brown jeans. I had a white long sleeve collared shirt and i just went out and bought some clearance fabric to tie around his waste and head for the sash and head scarf. then I am takeing two of his belts and putting one by the tie around his stomach and one over his sholder and I bought a toy sword from the dollar tree. A little of your wifes black eye shadow around your eyes and just grow your beard and mustash out a couple days before. easy.

My mom when we were kids did some home made costumes.
One is dressing me like a scare crow. she put yarn in as straw, my dad's shirt and took a hat and put straw in it and buy face paint and painted my face. Did I ever look like a scare crow...make sure you have jeans on.
Another one is a pirate, my brother wore a horizontal red and white stripe shirt and took some old pants and tater them up. With some material you can make a patch and put face paint and make a beard. then with a regular scarf, put it wrapped on the head to look like scally wag. For a sword, get card board, cut to make the handle and sword, wrap it with tinfoil for the sword and you got your homemade sword.

We always had a blast with "Come as Your Favorite Dead Person" parties. That's the easiest. Just dress normally or whatever and pick someone.
I was "Good" one year, too. I wore all white. That was it. I only had black shoes though. I told people, "Nobody's perfect!"
