Let's say that you bought an item for $5 and you want to know what the tax would be on that.
You would do 5 * .07
That would give you .35, which is 35 cents.
If you wanted to calculate what the final price would be of a $5 PLUS sales tax, you would do
5 * 1.07
That would give you the price AFTER taxes, which is $5.35
If you want a way to quickly find the number, round the number of DOLLARS to the nearest one (like round 9.75 to 10) and then do 10 times 7. That would give you 70, which means the tax is AROUND 70 cents.

Multiply the retail price by 1.07 for a 7% sales tax, or 1.08 for an 8% sales tax etc, you are multiplying the retail price by itself, plus the 7% of the retail price, just adding it together in one equation.

the only way i may be for a countrywide sales tax may be the honest Tax. which might propose eliminating the IRS, and instituting a countrywide sales tax. yet that's the only way i might help a countrywide sales tax.
