My husband and I have been trying to have a baby now since my cycle in February 2006- its now October. I am very anxious to become pregnant and I know you should try for a year before becoming concerned. I used the over the counter ovulation kits, and even bought the Clear Blue Easy Fertility monitor to help me pin point when I ovulate.
All of my life I have had weird periods- sometimes go 3 months without a period- lately running about 45- 52 day cycles, and every now and then there would be a 27 day cycle. I started charting my periods last year so I could guess when my period would come- I was getting tired of "Aunt Flow" just showing up out of the blue and having embarrassing accidents. According to these OTC ovulation kits I only ovulated one time since February.
On September 22 of this year I went to my OB/GYN for the whole works, and I brought my nifty period chart with, told him the whole story and he said just by looking at my chart that he could tell I wasn't ovulating. He ran some tests and did a vaginal ultrasound and Vaio Lah! I have PCOS Polycystic ovaries and don't ovulate!!
I know its sort of a lie, :(---I told my doc that we had been trying for a year so that he would look further into it. I had said concerns to a different doc ( my family practioner) previously and he just told me to be patient and never looked into it. (Actually the butt told me to pull a night on the town and end up in the backseat of an old Chevy and chuckled- I wasnt amused) But I am really glad I had it checked out or I would still be waiting until Februaury.
PS- I start my first round of Clomid this month!!
So my advice to you- trust your gut feeling- if you really think there is something wrong- get it checked out and bring some proof to back you up if you keep trying without luck! Hope you get PG soon! I know it can be very anxious!

Hi,
Just go to your regular dr and they will advise you from there:-)
Usually they will refer you onto an Obstetrician who is a specialist in that field.
Then they will take you through all of the relevant tests etc.
And keep in mind that 5 mths isn't all that long to be trying. They say that women who ttc -most will conceive in the 1st yr of trying.
Are you also pin pointing ovulation time? If u dont get this right you will not fall pregnant! Not sure if you use them or not but ovulation test strips are very good for predicting Ovulation time and when you should be 'busy' :-)

Your local doctor would be the first stop and he can help, though if you are not successful in a year there are tests thatcan be done to which your local doctor can refer you to. Learn to relax and not think about falling pregnant. I know its hard but think of it has the fun of trying. Sometimes in life we may need a little help and support in achieving the goals of life. Just dont give up hope and dont get stressed and this can be a contributing factor. When its time it will happen....

Well I know exactly how you feel. Fertility doctors say you have to be "trying" for atleast 12 months, but maybe you should talk to your OBGYN if your really concerned. Maybe they can run tests and stuff. Your OBGYN will probably refer you to someone like a RE (reproductive endocrinologist). They will help you to figure out the best method for you. It might be IVF, or even something simple like taking clomid! Well good luck and lots of babydust to you!

You can go to your OB/Gyn, but they will tell that they won't do anything till you have been trying for at least a year. That the general rule of thumb. It took me a exactly a year to get pregnant this time. This whole last year I felt the same as you. Just relax and keep trying. Good Luck

Call your local fertility center, tell them you have been TTC, you will go in for a check up and get some blood test done, then they will do a sperm analysis, depending on how your test come's back you will know what square to start from...Good luck!!

You should first consult your OB/GYN. There are exams and tests that the gyno can do on you that may explain inability to conceive. If that doesn't work, then you can ask the gyno to refer you to a fertility specialist.

Before you dump money into fertility testing, and doctors, you should read up on things you can do to naturally increase your fertility. Try a google search on "How to increase my fertility", and you get tons of stuff. I even saw a "fertility meter" which tells you when the best time to conceive.

You go to a fertility doctor. You can start with your OB, but depending on your age, you should go to a fertility doctor.
Are you doing it at the right time?

You should go to your obgyn. If you're under 30 they'll usually tell you to try for a year before doing an infertility workup.
