DUMB! I hope they don't join the tournament cos it will ruin the tournament's joyous spirit. However, if they do join, I hope they get thrashed by every team. They already get free ticket to play in the World Cup. How long will this team keep getting free tickets in major soccer tournements ?

They never accept since it "interferes" with their MLS matches. BS. plus they don't get "free tickets" into the WC. They just have it REAL easy playing against teams in the OFC or w/e.

Oh yea, they get INVITED. Also, US isn't as bad as we all assume. Look at players like Clint Dempsey and Gooch Onyewu, no joke in their skills.

They shouldnt play in the Copa America since they always play teams ranked lower than 75th in the FIFA rankings. And they do get free tickets because really what top team has the US beat? Also you know the team is really bad if they only scored one time in the World Cup and name the player that scored US Player of the Year.

Well, your obvious anti-American stance aside...

If the US team hopes to improve itself, especially against foreign competition such that they can compete and be successful in tournaments like the World Cup, this is exactly the kind of tournament they need to play in. And Copa America always invites two nations from outside of South America to play.

And last time I checked, the only nation that has a free ticket to the World Cup in 2010 is South Africa. Given that the US has actually had more success in the World Cup than Mexico has, you may want to ask why the Mexicans keep getting free tickets to play in the World Cup...

Great tourney.. They probably will get thrashed by most teams.. Brazil and Argentina aside, the rest of the quality in South America is relatively constant. They definetly need the experience at that level to have any chance of winning a match in a wc though
